This is my statically generated site that I throw random stuff onto when I feel like it. Most likely nobody will read this, but I'm using it as an exercise for myself to write down my thoughts and to do some static website development. I also think writing is a good skill to have that is often overlooked. As an engineer, I don't frequently do a lot of non-technical writing, so this is a place for me to do that.
I'm building everything from scratch without AI agents using 11ty. I've tested this on multiple screen sizes, but the CSS is handwritten (no libraries), so there may be a few issues with viewing on non-standard screens.
I think a lot of people think making a website is difficult or expensive because of website builders like Wix and Squarespace. They certainly have a lot of features, but if you're making a blog or frontpage for your company, you'd probably be fine with Astro, Hugo, or something similar. I pay something like $10/yr for my domain name and host this site for free with Cloudflare Pages. Static site generators require a little more setup, but that's an increasingly low barrier with modern AI tools (even just using AI chat and no agents).
The background for the site is The Fortress of Königstein by Bernardo Bellotto, which is on display at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
